Increase in extortion: “Rangers Complaint Cell” reactivated in Karachi Chamber

“Rangers Monitoring and Complaints Cell” was re-activated in Karachi Chamber.

According to the President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Iftikhar Ahmad Sheikh, two Rangers personnel will be present in the “Rangers Monitoring and Complaint Cell” from 9 am to 5 pm daily to facilitate the business community in dealing with law and order issues.

Talking to the delegation led by Alliance of Arambagh Markets Association Chairman Asif Gulfam, he said that the reactivation of the Rangers cell was possible due to the efforts of the CCI leadership who DG Rangers, Immediate action was taken by continuously communicating with the Additional IG and other officials.

He said that Rangers Monitoring Cell with already operational Police Chamber Liaison Committee in Karachi Chamber will definitely provide some relief to distressed businessmen and industrialists. Traders who are receiving threats should immediately contact the Rangers Monitoring Cell, their identity will be kept confidential.

Iftikhar Sheikh said that the overall situation of doing business today is not good at all, Karachi Chamber stands with all the shopkeepers and industrialists in this hour of difficulty, we are making every possible effort to stop the activities of extortion mafia. Discussions are going on with the relevant institutions seriously to solve other problems.

Arambagh Markets Association Chairman Alliance Asif Gulfam told President KCCI that shopkeepers are already fighting for their survival due to economic crisis but now street crimes have increased rapidly and extortion mafia too. It is starting to pick up again before the general elections which is really worrying.

He said that due to lack of street lights in Urdu Bazar, Aram Bagh and other nearby markets, criminals loot freely and take advantage of the darkness to escape easily. Police and Rangers squads should be deployed in all markets of Karachi to ensure a safe environment so that traders and shopkeepers can continue their business without any fear.
