There is a shortage of 56,000 security personnel for the elections, says Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister

Peshawar: Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Arshad Hussain Shah has said that there is a shortage of 56,000 security personnel for the elections, for which the federal government has been informed.

Talking to the media representatives on the occasion of the visit to the Police Lines, the Caretaker Chief Minister said that the province is facing financial difficulties, the shares of the merged districts and other funds are not being received from the federal government.

Syed Arshad Hussain Shah said that steps are being taken to strengthen the police despite financial problems.

He said that there is a shortage of 56,000 security personnel for the elections, and the issue of providing additional security personnel has been raised with the federal government.

The Caretaker Chief Minister said that the decision of the Election Commission and the court regarding the conduct of elections will be final and the provincial government will provide all possible support to the Election Commission in this regard.

Meanwhile, out of 3,201 polling stations in five districts of Peshawar division, 1,293 polling stations have been declared as highly sensitive and 1,234 as sensitive.

To review the preparations for the upcoming elections, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Peshawar Muhammad Zubair in which all the five districts of Peshawar Division, Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Tribal District Mohmand and District Khyber Deputy Commissioners, District Police Officers, Special Branch, Intelligence. Bureau and CTD officers attended.

It has been decided to ask for the services of women from the Health Department to meet the shortage of women personnel at the polling stations, for which the Commissioner Peshawar has also sent a formal letter to the Health Department.

Commissioner Peshawar said that 1,293 polling stations in all the five districts of Peshawar division have been declared as highly sensitive, 1234 polling stations where women officials need to be posted.

In the meeting, orders were also issued to ensure the availability of heavy machinery to remove snow two days before the election in snow-covered areas.
