Karachi: Corona vaccine and testing kits disappeared in hospitals and health centers under the Sindh Health Department.
According to the details, there is a crisis of corona vaccination and testing kits in other health centers including hospitals, health care centers, mother and child health centers run by the Sindh Health Department, two major public hospitals of Karachi, Jinnah Hospital and Civil Hospital also have corona. The vaccinations were last provided by July last year.
Corona diagnostic tests were stopped in these hospitals months ago due to the absence of corona testing kits. It has been reported by the hospital heads and administration that the last time the Sindh Health Department provided corona vaccines and testing kits was in July 2023. There were, but now the corona vaccine and testing kits are over.
The cases of the new variant of Corona have sounded the alarm. According to the data of Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) till June 11, 2023, the total number of people above twelve years of age in Karachi is 12243492, 12325342 people in Karachi have received the first dose of Corona vaccine, while 12388952 people 4172622 people have been given the first booster dose of Corona in Karachi, while 265558 people have also given the second booster dose.
Additional Director EPI Dr. Sohail Sheikh said that this data is for people above the age of twelve and is up to June 11, 2023. It can be seen in this data that more vaccines have been administered than the population of Karachi because outside Karachi. The people were also coming to get vaccinated, even after that vaccinations have been done at the official level, but because of the decrease in corona cases, the demand for corona vaccine among people has decreased and we have also stopped collecting data.
Dr. Faisal Javed, general physician of Jinnah Hospital Karachi, said that the cases of influenza have increased due to winter, while some symptoms of Corona JN1 and influenza are similar, including cold, cough and headache. It has also happened in the past that many people mistook their flu for corona virus, while some people mistook their corona virus for minor flu, so it is important to understand the sensitivity and consult a doctor when these symptoms appear.
