Washington: The US Special Envoy for Afghanistan has apologized for his tweets about Afghan women. Karen Decker was being criticized a lot for this tweet.
According to the World News Agency, the top US diplomat, Karen Decker, tweeted that struggling Afghan women should also learn from African-American black history and culture, and especially the social media movement # BlackGirlMagic can help.
In his tweet, he also said how black people used to come and sit on table chairs in a restaurant because black people were not served, until the restaurant owner was forced to change the policy.
Karen Decker further wrote why such peaceful protests are not seen in Afghanistan. Are Afghans familiar with #BlackGirlMagic? Do Afghan girls need a similar movement? What about Afghan women? She can learn from examples like pop culture icons Beyoncé and Lizzo.
The tweet was heavily criticized and the US State Department reprimanded the special envoy. Spokesman Ned Price said Karen Decker’s tweet and her style of messaging were “rather inappropriate and ineffective”.
US Ambassador Karen Decker deleted the tweet and apologized for it in another tweet, writing that several of her posts had been “messed up” despite her “best intentions”. I apologize to all those who have been hurt by my words.
