Electricity theft of 380 billion this year, revealed in the Standing Committee

Islamabad: In the meeting of the Standing Committee on Energy of the National Assembly, it has been revealed that electricity worth 380 billion rupees has been stolen in the country during the current year.

On Friday, Secretary Power told the meeting that 200 billion rupees worth of electricity was stolen through coils and 80 billion meters, estimated to be 520 billion rupees stolen from a grid station in Bannu due to increase in electricity tariff next year. 5 billion electricity is stolen annually, according to K Electric officials, the process of FIR on electricity theft has been made complicated.

Secretary Power said that electricity cannot be shut off from the feeders to prevent electricity theft, with this measure the bill payers will also be affected, if load shedding is not done, there will be a burden of 220 billion rupees per month.

He said that plans are being made regarding the recovery of electricity theft in discos, there is a plan to stop electricity theft with transformers instead of feeders, our people are also involved in electricity theft.

Apart from this, the Special Committee of the National Assembly on Affected Employees directed the Establishment Division to issue a circular to all institutions regarding the permanence of contract daily wages, temporary and senior meter readers employees.
