The causes of high blood pressure can be divided into different types including primary hypertension, secondary hypertension and spontaneous hypertension.
Primary hypertension: When high blood pressure has no obvious underlying cause, it is called primary hypertension.

Certain medications: Some medications can narrow blood vessels, making it harder for the heart to pump blood. These include illegal drugs, pregnancy.
Some conditions also occur in which the blood pressure level suddenly rises. Such conditions include difficulty breathing, rapid heart rate, nervousness, headache, dizziness, nausea, difficulty speaking, vision problems, nosebleeds.
