Karachi: Even in 2023, Karachi’s traffic system proved to be the worst, due to which 777 citizens died due to accidents.
According to the statistics of welfare organizations, more lives have been lost in traffic accidents than terrorism and murders in the city of Quaid. This year, 70 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in January, 60 in February, and 75 in March.
Similarly, 83 people died in April, 64 in May, 36 in June, 60 in July, 69 in August, 62 in September, 62 in October, 91 in November and 47 people died in various traffic accidents in December. No effective campaign has been launched against speeding.
The Additional IG says that the major cause of traffic accidents is unnecessary U-turns, speed breakers and intersections built due to poor engineering on the highways, while the residents of Shahr Quaid say that poor infrastructure, violation of traffic rules. Lack of effective checking of vehicle and heavy transport fitness is the cause of accidents.
According to the traffic police report, most of the people killed in traffic accidents in Karachi are motorcyclists, while most of the incidents are caused by trucks, trawlers and water tankers due to high speed.
