Peshawar: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to provide the facility of opening bank accounts to the prisoners in jails across the province.
According to Express News, IG Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Usman Mehsud has said that the approval to open bank accounts of prisoners was given under the Welfare Fund Rules 2023, for the first time rules have been made for the support of the family by the prisoners and now the accounts Discussions are ongoing with Bank of Khyber for opening.
He said that the prisoners will be able to support their families by working in the jail, 10 percent of the wages received by the prisoners will be given to the government, 30 percent will be given to the prisoners while 60 percent will be deposited in the welfare fund.
IG Prisons further said that the prisoners in the jails will be able to work in small factories of carpets, furniture and leather, inmates will also be able to work in PCO and canteen.
