Taiwan: A new study suggests that the use of high doses of drugs to treat skin diseases increases the risk of bone disease.
A study conducted at the National Taiwan University Hospital in Taiwan studied the medical records of 8,000 patients.
In the study, researchers found that people who used corticosteroids (creams and ointments used to constrict blood vessels and reduce inflammation) were less likely to develop osteoporosis and fracture bones over the next five years. The risks were high.
People who used high doses of the drug were 34 percent more likely to develop the condition, but those who used low doses of the drug had a 22 percent higher risk of the condition. .
Research has found women to be easier targets for this problem than men.
