The residents of Gulshan Jamal have filed a petition in the Sindh High Court against the non-supply of water
Karachi: The Sindh High Court has sought response from the Water and Sewerage Board and Director Cantonment Board Faisal, among others, on the petition regarding non-supply of water in Gulshan Jamal.
A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sindh High Court, Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi, heard the application regarding non-supply of water in Gulshan Jamal.
Usman Farooq, advocate for the petitioner, argued that water is a basic need and it is the responsibility of the state to provide water to the citizens. Due to non-availability of water in the area, residents are forced to pay thousands of rupees every month to buy water from the tanker service. Residents of Gulshan Jamal pay taxes and still they do not get water. The concerned authorities should be ordered to provide new water line to the area so that this problem can be solved.
He argued that water board is responsible for providing water to all areas be it KMC area or cantonment. The residents of the area have been facing severe problems due to lack of water supply for many years. A complaint was also made to the High Ombudsman in this regard, but then the concerned authorities did not resolve the issue. The court is requested to solve this problem as soon as possible so that the problems of the residents can end.
The court sought the reply of Karachi Water Sewerage Board and Director Cantonment Board Faisal and others on January 25.
