An explosion is suspected to have occurred during an attempt to steal oil by breaking the underground pipeline of a house
Rawalpindi: A supply pipeline of an oil refinery company exploded and caught fire near Jodiyan in Dhamyal area, but luckily there were no casualties.
The fire brigade and rescue teams immediately reached the spot after receiving the information about the incident which took place in Sadar Baruni area. According to preliminary information, an oil line and a house have caught fire due to the explosion.
Several fire tenders, emergency vehicles and personnel brought the fire under control after several hours of effort. Rawalpindi police officers are also present at the spot.
SHO President Baruni Jamal Nawaz said that as a result of the fire and explosion, two houses were also affected, but there was no loss of life and no one was injured. Gas pipeline and oil pipeline are also passing from the adjacent location. The cause of the fire or explosion can be determined only after the fire is completely under control.
The pipeline runs underground in front of the houses. The floors of two houses were also damaged due to the explosion and fire.
Residents said that tenants from Punjab had settled in a house in the affected area a week ago. When I got up in the morning, I saw that black liquid was spread in the street and in the back. We thought it was sewer water, but we didn’t even understand that there was an explosion in front of the victim’s house and a fire broke out.
The people living in the said house left the house overnight and disappeared. It is suspected that the tenants in the house tried to steal the oil by breaking the oil pipeline.
ASP president Zainab Ayub said that they are examining all the aspects including drilling holes in the pipeline on behalf of the tenant of the house.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatta while talking to the media said that oil lines used to pass through here, settlements have been built on them, this house was empty, someone tried to steal oil, fire broke out while puncturing the pipeline.
Commissioner Rawalpindi said that letters were written to the oil field and refinery earlier that the lines should be moved, now they will make a permanent policy on this matter, although the place of the lines is still vacant but people have built houses nearby.
