Even after treatment for blood pressure and cholesterol, the risk of heart disease remains

California: Having high cholesterol and high blood pressure before age 55 can put you at serious risk of heart disease, even if both levels return to normal later.

According to media reports, a study published in the journal PLOS One found that balancing cholesterol and blood pressure levels before age 55 can have lasting effects on heart health later in life.

Researchers discovered a consistent relationship between increased heart disease risk, high levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) and systolic blood pressure in people aged 55 to 60, 61 and over 65.

High levels of LDL and blood pressure, if not already balanced, increase the risk of heart disease even after treatment in early and middle age, the experts said in their research findings.
