Islamabad: The court reserved its decision on the request to postpone the election pending the scrutiny of fake identity cards of Afghans.
A hearing was held in the Islamabad High Court on the request to postpone the general elections until the fake identity cards of the Afghan refugees are scrutinized, in which the petitioner Aftab Alam appeared with his lawyer Malik Akhtar Abbas before Chief Justice Amir Farooq.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer said in his arguments that the process of returning Afghan refugees to their homeland is ongoing. It has been revealed that Afghan refugees have forged identity cards to join the voter lists. Due to the fake identity cards of Afghan refugees, questions will be raised on the general elections. The use of Pakistani passports by Afghan refugees is also a threat to national security. The court ordered the postponement of the general elections until the identity cards of the Afghan refugees are scrutinized.
Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Aamir Farooq remarked that the Election Commission has released the election schedule. Now how can the court issue orders to postpone the general elections?
Later, the court reserved its decision on the request to postpone the elections till the scrutiny of identity cards of Afghan refugees is completed.
