Lahore: This year (in 2023), 4.8 million citizens of Lahore have violated traffic rules.
According to CTO Lahore, motorcyclists are on top of those who violate traffic rules. In 2023, challan tickets were issued to 22 lakh 64 thousand motorcycle riders without helmets while 5 lakh 20 thousand 927 challan tickets were issued for driving vehicles and motorcycles without license.
Apart from this, action was taken against 2 lakh 23 thousand vehicles for violation of lane, stop line and zebra crossing. 120,000 violators were caught for parking wrongly, while Lahoris also violated one way 85,000 times.
According to CTO Lahore Amara Athar, action was taken against 63 thousand vehicles for disrupting the traffic flow. Action was taken against 39,000 vehicles for red signal crossing, 31,000 vehicles for not wearing seat belts. Action was taken against 48,000 vehicles for using mobile phones while driving, 49,000 vehicles for dangerous driving, while 4,000 vehicles with black glasses, 1,36,000 vehicles without and applied for.
According to the authorities, the purpose of the operations is to ensure the supremacy of traffic rules and orderly traffic. The purpose of the challan is not to collect revenue, but to reform the citizens.
