Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court declared the delimitation of National Assembly constituencies NA-35 and NA-36 null and void.
The Islamabad High Court annulled the constituencies of National Assembly Constituency NA-35 Kohat and N-36 Hangu and Kazai while rejecting Chaudhry Nisar’s petition against the constituencies of NA-53 Constituency.
Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Amir Farooq while pronouncing the reserved judgment directed the Election Commission to re-delineate the constituencies after hearing all the parties again.
The court, while issuing a written decision, has asked that the Election Commission listen to the position of the petitioner and take a concrete decision.
Barrister Umar Ejaz Gilani had taken the position that according to the law, the population of all constituencies should be equal. The petitioner was of the view that for example the population of Kohat constituency is three lakh more than that of Hangu constituency.
The position of the petitioner was that the election commission’s new constituencies undermine the voting rights of the people of the area.
The court rejected former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar’s petition against the delimitation of constituencies NA-53 and PP-10. The petition against the delimitation of NA-53 constituency was filed by Sheikh Sajidur Rahman.
