A loud explosion occurred under the Nipa flyover in Gulshan Iqbal area of Karachi when drug addicts were intoxicated by burning matches.
According to the correspondent of Express News, the explosion was so powerful that the bridge was also damaged and there was a stampede at the scene. Due to the chaos, traffic jams and queues of vehicles were formed.
There was more than usual traffic due to the construction work of the Red Bus Line in and around the Nipa flyover and then the Book Fair at the Expo Centre.
According to SP Gulshan Iqbal Ayaz Hussain, the bomb disposal squad was called immediately after the blast.
According to the Azizbhati police, the explosion occurred due to a leak in the gas line passing under the Nipa bridge and leading to the nearby mobile market.
The girl killed in the explosion was identified as 20-year-old Aini Dokhtar Ashok and the injured youth was identified as 20-year-old Shahrukh son of Mashuq, while another injured person could not be identified.
After the explosion, the team of Sui Southern Gas Company reached the spot and is trying to find out which pipeline and where the gas is leaking from.
