Liverpool: A study has shown that artificially sweetened beverages do not cause weight gain.
One conducted at the University of Liverpool in the UK research According to me, drinking two cans of artificially sweetened beverages for a year has no significant effect on body weight.
British researchers compared weight loss between overweight and obese people who drank low-calorie sugary drinks and those who drank water.
For this comparison, the researchers selected 493 people between the ages of 18 and 65 with an average body mass index (BMI) of 31. Only 262 people survived the one-year study.
In the study, the researchers divided the participants into two groups. One group was given 300 ml of water at least twice a day, while the other group was given the same amount of artificially sweetened beverages.
The study found that people who drank diet drinks not only maintained their weight, but also improved their good cholesterol, which meant a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke.
According to the results, people in the diet drink group lost an average of 7.5 kg, while those who drank water lost 6.1 kg.
Water drinkers had the greatest weight loss at 44 weeks, while beverage drinkers had the greatest weight loss at 36 weeks.
Both groups started to gain weight again after reaching this threshold of weight loss, but the beverage group gained weight less rapidly than the water group.
It should be noted that the results of this research published in the International Journal of Obesity contradict the results of several studies conducted in the past.
