Islamabad: The Supreme Judicial Council has decided to open the hearing of the case against Justice Mazahar.
On behalf of the council, while accepting the request of Justice Mazahar Naqvi, the decision to open the proceedings against him was unanimously decided. In this regard, all the five members of the Judicial Council approved the request for open hearing.
Earlier, Justice Mazahir Naqvi had written a letter to the Judicial Council, in which he demanded to open the proceedings. In the letter, it was said that in the Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui case, the Supreme Court recognized the right of open hearing of the Judicial Council. I request that the proceedings of the Judicial Council against me should also be heard in an open manner.
In the letter, Justice Mazahir Naqvi requested that the Constitution of Pakistan gives me the right to an open hearing, I have raised objections to the formation of the Judicial Council, because of the in-camera meeting of the Council, my media trial is being conducted. I am being ridiculed because of the council action. A transparent trial requires that justice should not only be done but be seen to be done, pending the decision of the Judicial Council on my petitions.
Justice Mazhar further wrote in the letter that several applications are pending before my Judicial Council. On November 13, I questioned the legality of the notice and demanded its withdrawal. Both my applications are scheduled for hearing on December 15.
After the request for an open trial, the Supreme Judicial Council accepted the request of Justice Mazahar Naqvi and decided to hold an open hearing of the proceedings. According to the sources, this hearing will be held in the courtroom number one of the Supreme Court.
