Order to continue the investigation into the death of civilians in Skarund Mari Jalbani

Karachi: The Sindh High Court has ordered to continue the investigation into the death of civilians in Skarund Mari Jalbani.

The High Court ordered the continuation of the investigation by restraining the concerned Magistrate from making a decision on the C-class report of the police on the request regarding the judicial investigation and the arrest of the accused.

A hearing was held on the petition of Tehmas Rashid A. Rizvi regarding the judicial investigation of the killing of civilians in Skrand Mari Jalbani and the arrest of the accused in front of a 2-member bench of the Sindh High Court consisting of Justice Nimatullah Phalpoto and Justice Amjad Ali Sohto.

The lawyer of the petitioner, Barrister Haider Imam Rizvi, submitted that the police is classifying the case as C class and has submitted the report to the concerned court. A clear and transparent investigation should be conducted. Justice Nimatullah Phalpoto asked the DIG to tell us what they have done. DIG Shaheed Benazirabad said that the interim challan of the case has been submitted to the concerned court Examined the statements of the witnesses but they do not support the case. SHO and investigating officer have investigated the case.

Justice Nimatullah Phalputo remarked that in the last order, the police had been directed to investigate further, what happened? The DIG said that a team consisting of honest officers from across the district has been formed to look into the matter. Statements of witnesses were recorded and a report was compiled.

Justice Amjad Ali Sohto remarked that your SSP had told that the accused were unknown. You are saying that the accused had their faces covered. Barrister Haider Imam Rizvi opined that these people sometimes say that they have been killed in competition, sometimes they say that they have been killed by unknown suspects.

Later, the Sindh High Court ordered DIG Shaheed Benazirabad to continue the investigation and adjourned the hearing till January 15 while restraining the concerned court from deciding on the C Class report.

After the hearing, Barrister Haider Imam Rizvi said that we objected to the C-class report of the police, we pleaded that the investigation has not been done properly, there were many revelations in the report. The Supreme Court has restrained from the decision, it is our position from the first day that there should be a transparent investigation into this matter.
