Islamabad: A request to increase the cost of electricity for the consumers of Karachi was submitted to Nepra.
Preparations are being made to drop another bomb of inflation on the electricity consumers of Shahr Quaid. The federal government has submitted a request to Nepra to increase the price of electricity for the consumers of Karachi.
The government has requested to increase the cost of electricity for Karachi by one rupee 72 paise per unit. This increase has been sought in the second and third quarter adjustments of the previous financial year.
According to the sources, an increase of Rs. 25 paise per unit has been sought in the quarterly adjustment for January-March 2023. In the quarterly adjustment from October to December 2022, an increase of 47 paise per unit has been sought. Apart from this, an increase has also been demanded to maintain a uniform electricity tariff across the country.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear the request on December 20.
